We’ve been here in Calgary for 18 months now, and I can’t believe how quickly the time is passing!

Reflecting on our year and a half here, I am amazed by how much we have done and seen. Among the things we’ve done are:

  • Fly fishing
  • Dogsled riding
  • Canoeing
  • Gun range target shooting
  • Kayaking
  • Cross-country skiing
  • Human bonspeiling/curling
  • Golf driving range
  • Biking
  • Hiking
  • Geocaching
  • Touring (Lake Louise, Banff, Jasper, Kananaskis Mountains)
  • RV camping in Kananaskis
  • Waterton Park (Canada side of Glacier)

Still to do: horseback riding, curling, tennis, golfing, snowshoeing

And that’s just the physical activities. We have also enhanced our minds by attending or visiting the:

  • Wordfest literary festival
  • Calgary Music festival
  • Calgary Music Centre
  • Stampede parade
  • Stampede rodeo (2x)
  • Lady Antebellum concert
  • Local book club
  • Little Prince play
  • The Audience play
  • Calgary Tower museum
  • Vulcan Star Trek museum
  • Dinosaur national park
  • Roughneck lacrosse game
  • Flames hockey game
  • Rodeo
  • Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump
  • Fargo filming on 9th Ave. (and Fargo filming location road trip)
  • James Galway concert
  • Nordic Masters concert
  • Quebec Winter Festival
  • Balletlujah ballet (KD Lang)
  • Romeo and Juliet ballet
  • Hungarian Masters concert
  • Bugs Bunny in Concert
  • Movie theaters
  • Community street fairs and food festivals
  • Community Clean-Up events
  • Zoo events
  • Glenbow Museum
  • Art galleries
  • American national parks event
  • Brazil festival
  • 10K Walk/Run Against Cancer
  • Veteran’s Day events at Memorial Park
  • Music shows at local venues (Ironwood Stage, Blues Can, Gravity, etc.)

All of this, plus daily walks along the Bow River, sometimes across the Elbow River, and enjoying our great Inglewood neighborhood.

I’d say we’re making use of our time here, and I’m thrilled that we still have 2.5 years more! It’s definitely going to be hard to leave this place for our next assignment. But I won’t think about that now. Too much fun to plan in the meanwhile. Canada rocks!
